The Effects of Group Art Therapy on the Personality of Children from Multicultural Family

Abstract
The purpose of this research is to improve the personality of children from a multicultural family, by testing the effects of group art therapy programs on the personality of children from a multicultural family. The subjects of this study were selected from 18 children with a score of lower 30% after personality tests were conducted among 50 children from multicultural families attending B elementary school in A city, Gyeonggi Province. To test the effectiveness of the group art therapy program, the Personality Assessment System?Children of the experimental group and the control group were tested and compared. Additionally, the final 18 selected children were randomly assigned to nine experimental and nine control groups. It was determined that the results of the pre and post-test were calculated by the mean and standard deviation, and an independent t-test was conducted. The results of the study are as follows. First, the group art therapy programs showed a positive effect on the whole personality of children from multicultural family. Second, a review of the group art therapy programs showed significant differences in sociability, activity, stability, and self?confidence among the sub-factors of children from a multicultural family, but there was no significant difference in independence, harmony, and thoughtfulness. Furthermore, the results of this study show that group art therapy programs have a positive effect on the personality of children from multicultural family and emotional stability and psychological recovery.
